Mountain Shadow Golf Club which ws previously known as Natural Park Hill Golf Club, re-opened 2004 after a comprehensive refurbishment by new owners. This is another course which is located approximately halfway between Bangkok and Pattaya, Ronald Fream & David Dale were responsible for designing the layout designed Mountain Shadow and created a very attractive course built on the site of a former mango plantation with lovely flowers and mature trees acting as a backdrop to each hole.
The fairways are quite narrow at times so and the greens are medium paced, but the maintenance can be inconsistent, and the course suffers when there is little rain. It’s quite a short course and therefore ideal for beginners and higher handicappers but better golfers should also have fun and there are numerous water hazards, doglegs and no less than 4 island greens to negotiate.
The greens have quite big undulations and at times getting the correct read can be tricky. You need to stay on the narrow fairways as it’s easy to get blocked behind one of the many palm trees that line both sides. The courses is made more challenging because there is quite a long carry off many of the tee boxes to reach the short grass so beginners may struggle off the tee as shorts tee shots often wind up in the semi-rough.
Both the 6th and 14th holes are difficult and long par-5’s. The two dogleg holes both have greens which are protected by daunting water hazards. Greta care is required in order to avoid a watery grave.
The clubhouse is very run down and in need of some care and attention but has a reasonable Thai restaurant serving a wide range of dishes at reasonable prices, and there is a pro shop and some rather shabby changing rooms.
