The 27-hole Crystal Bay Golf Resort course is one of the older golf courses in Pattaya and was originally designed by Thai Takenaka. IT has actually been open since 1988 and has changed its name several times before settling on Crystal Bay Golf Resort.
The golf course is around 45 minutes from Pattaya and 1.5 hours from Bangkok and is often described has having a distinctly ‘Hawaiian’ vibe with many of the holes being fringed by palm trees.
This Pattaya golf course is a 2nd tier course and is a reasonably easy and uncomplicated 27-hole layout consisting of three nine-hole layouts – each with their own very distinct characteristics with different elevation changes and types of hazards. The layout is a mixture of the classic parkland fairways with an occasional links-type hole thrown in. Water hazards are plentiful and often border the fairways although some of them block the route to the green and will require a water carry to reach the green. Many of the greens are also protected by bunkers so accurate iron play and courses management is essential.
The pick of the holes is the 3rd which is a par-4 dogleg and par-3 8th which features an island green which makes the tee shot particularly daunting. Many of the waterways are not really hazards but do add to the beauty of the course. Being a relatively easy courses most golfers should be able to play to their handicap and even land a birdie or two.
The clubhouse needs renovating and the locker rooms are very old – also the maintenance at the course is not up to standard, and the golf course conditions vary through the year, so we suggest you check with us before playing. The food in the clubhouse is adequate and there is plenty of cold beer to enjoy after your round.
