Khao Kheow Country Club is about halfway between Bangkok and Pattaya, just off the main highway and is an ideal course for those who wish to play golf in Pattaya soon after arrival or a final game on the way to the airport. Like many golf courses in Pattaya, Khao Kheow Country Club sits in a picturesque valley between two hills. It’s quite a long course with some significant elevation changes between holes which makes for a welcome change from some of the flatter golf courses in the surrounding area.
As can be expected from a Pete Dye design, accurate shot making is essential to master not only the blustery conditions but also to avoid the numerous large water hazards, bunkers, and mounds that fringe the fairways. Greens are pretty small with plenty of bumps and hollows which makes accurate putting a must if you are to score well.
With a choice of three nine-hole layouts to choose from (A, B and C), there is plenty of excitement and many excellent golf holes to be negotiated. Each of the nines has a hole which can really ruin your card. Lying in wait on the A Course is the par-4 7th and as you survey the hole from the tee box you will see water running all the way along the hole from tee-to-green and the fairway beyond if looks smaller every time you look at it.
The B Course features the hole that everyone talks about and must be on of the most photographed holes in Thailand. You play form an elevated tee box to an island green framed by the surrounding water and the hills in the background – very satisfying if you can make the putting surface.
If you have time, we suggest you play all 27 holes and then you can truly experience the variety of this golf course. The clubhouse has seen better days but the upstairs restaurant which overlooks the B Course serves some excellent food and panty of cold beer.
Overall Khao Kheow is another great value gold course which is well maintained and managed and for those who like to walk carts are not compulsory
