The Emerald Golf club which is set into the mountains just outside Rayong has the potential to be one of the better golf courses in Pattaya as Nick Faldo and Desmond Muirhead have both had a hand in its design and so the layout is exceptional. It has changed hands and its name serval times and it continues to suffer from a lack of investment and so the maintenance and facilities do not match the excellence of its design. is a real country golf course. Named Ban Chang initially and then Rayong Century Golf Club the course. The Emerald Golf Club is one of the lesser-known Pattaya golf courses.
The name is very apt and during the summer months the course is green and lush, and the fairways are lined by the natural rainforest with many mature trees which still support an abundance of wildlife. The gently undulating fairways, the raised greens and the cleverly placed water hazards and bunkers combine to make the Emerald one the most difficult golf courses in Pattaya. Some excellent par-3’s but they are all very challenging. Unlike many of the other modern golf courses, accuracy off the tee is preferred over distance as the rough and deep jungle lies in wait for the errant shot.
The small mainly open-air clubhouse and other facilities are fairly basic, but the food is excellent and the service friendly and attentive. One advantage of playing at Emerald is its proximity to the town of Ban Chang which has a night life which is wilder than anything that can be found in Pattaya!
